Russian politician Leonid Volkov charged with 'justifying terrorism' for post about Putin

Alexey Navalny’s associate, politician Leonid Volkov, reported that a criminal case had been opened against him for “justifying terrorism”, he shared this information on his Telegram channel.

According to Volkov, the reason for the criminal case was a “post about how Putin is the number one terrorist in the world right now, and he should be dealt with accordingly”.

According to the Russian article on appeals to terrorism or justifying terrorist acts on the Internet, Volkov could be sentenced from five to seven years of jail time. The politician clarified that, supposedly, this is the eighth criminal case opened against him. Volkov is currently not in Russia.

In April 2022, the Russian Ministry of Justice included Volkov in the list of “foreign agents”. In February 2021, the Investigative Committee of Russia declared that Leonid Volkov was included in the international wanted list.
