Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the strategy of the West aimed at supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia, in his opinion, failed. The politician's statements are quoted by Reuters.
Orban said the strategy was based on four principles: that Ukraine could win the war with Western weapons, that sanctions would weaken Russia, that they would hurt Russia more than Europe, and that the world would support Europe's position. However, now governments in Europe, according to the politician, are collapsing “like dominoes”, and energy prices are rising.
“We are sitting in a car with all four tires punctured: it is absolutely clear that the war cannot be won this way,” the Hungarian Prime Minister said. He also stated that Ukraine, in his opinion, will never win the war "simply because the Russian army has an asymmetrical superiority."
Orban said that a "new strategy is needed that will focus on peace negotiations and the preparation of a good peace agreement." At the same time, according to him, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are impossible, and the war can only be ended by negotiations between Russia and the United States.
According to the publication of the website Daily News Hungary, Orban also said that if the US was led by Donald Trump and the FRG by Angela Merkel, there would be no war, as they would have taken into account Vladimir Putin's request for security guarantees.
