The UN Secretary General condemned the attacks on the port of Odessa carried out after agreements on the export of Ukrainian grain

UN Secretary-General António Guterres "unreservedly condemns" the July 23 attacks on the port of Odessa. This is stated in a statement by his press service.

Yesterday, the parties made clear commitments on the world stage to ensure the safe movement of Ukrainian grain and related products to world markets. These products are desperately needed to solve the global food crisis and alleviate the suffering of millions of people in need around the world. Full implementation by the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Turkey is mandatory.

In a statement, UN officials did not say who, in their opinion, carried out the strike.

• António Guterres was one of the signatories of grain export agreements that Russia and Ukraine concluded with Turkey and the UN. The agreements provide that Ukrainian grain will be freely exported from the ports of Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny. The parties have committed themselves not to strike at ships and port infrastructure.
• Ukraine has accused Russia of firing Kalibr missiles at the port of Odessa on July 23. Representatives of the Ukrainian air force said that the strike was carried out at a place where grain was stored, which was supposed to be exported, but later it became known that the granary was not damaged.
