A case has been opened against Leonid Gozman's wife for failure to notify about her second citizenship. The same case is being investigated against the politician himself

Politician Leonid Gozman reported that a criminal case has been opened against his wife under the article on failure to notify about a second citizenship. Earlier, a similar case was opened against him.

"We were just informed that a criminal case has been opened against my wife for the same terrible crime - for failing to report her second citizenship in a timely manner! The mafia did not touch wives and children in their showdowns. They don't give a damn!" Gozman wrote on his Facebook page .

In 2018, Gozman and his wife became Israeli citizens. They notified the Russian authorities of this a year later, later than required by law.

The criminal case against Gozman for failure to notify about Israeli citizenship has been under investigation since April 2022. Article 330.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for punishment in the form of a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles (or in the amount of wages for a period of up to one year) or compulsory work for up to 400 hours.

On July 25, the politician was detained by the police, but he was soon released, with an apology for the "slip-up." As Gozman later explained, he was put on the wanted list on July 12 due to a case of failure to file a notification of a second citizenship, and on July 15, he himself came to the Investigative Committee and gave testimony.

In a conversation with The Insider, the politician suggested that the authorities were trying to force him to leave the country. Gozman left Russia after the war in Ukraine began, but returned in mid-June. He called his decision "a moral, not a political choice."

In May, he was added to the register of media outlets that are “foreign agents.”
