The Seima Latvian Commission recognized Russia with a terrorist state

The Seima Latvia Commission on Foreign Affairs unanimously adopted a draft application for Russia's recognition by a terrorist state. The parliament will consider the application at the next meeting.

The document states that for many years the Russian authorities "supported and financed" terrorist organizations and regimes, in particular, supplied weapons to Syria.

"At present, Russia has chosen the like - brutal, immoral and illegal tactics in Ukraine, using inaccurate and prohibited by the international community weapons and ammunition, deliberately striking civil objects and public places, thereby inflicting not only huge physical damage, but also trying to demoralize and intimidate Ukrainian society," said Richards Colossus Chairman.

Deputies also called on the European Union countries immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to Russian citizens.

• Earlier, the US Senate approved the resolution calling for Russia to make "countries of terrorism sponsors." The resolution is formally only a recommendation. The right to make decisions on this issue belongs to the state secretary. However, a bill was submitted to the House of Representatives, in the case of the approval of which the administration will be forced to recognize Russia as "the country - sponsor of terrorism."
• US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken opposed this decision. The head of the American diplomatic department fears that Russia's recognition by the sponsor of terrorism will entail sanctions against some US allies who maintain business relations with Russia, and will also make it difficult to maintain diplomatic ties with Russia even at a minimum level.
• The recognition of Russia by the "country - sponsor of terrorism" will impose new sanctions against the Kremlin and against countries that continue to conduct business with Russia. In addition, this will allow citizens to file claims against the Russian government in American courts and, potentially, receive compensation at the expense of the arrested Russian state assets.
