An opponent of the Platon system was awarded compensation for illegal detention under house arrest

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow awarded compensation of 170 thousand rubles to truck driver Mikhail Vedrov, who opposed the Platon system. The judge granted the driver's claim and declared his detention under house arrest illegal during the period after the verdict and until the consideration of the appeal against it.

Vedrov’s interests were represented in court by lawyer from OVD-Info Maria Nemova.

In February 2021, the truck driver was given a two and a half year suspended sentence, having been found guilty under the article on the use of violence against a government official (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, Vedrov “dealt one blow to the neck” of a traffic police inspector whose patrol stopped a convoy of protesting truckers.

The driver and the defense appealed the court decision, and the regional court gave him a suspended sentence of up to two years. The Court of Cassation upheld this decision without changes, while recognizing the period that Vedrov spent under house arrest after the verdict by the court of first instance was illegal and excessive.
