A monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga will be destroyed after dismantling. The monument will be disassembled in parts and directed for disposal. This was told by the mayor of Riga Martins Stakis.

According to the mayor, the museum of the occupation was not recognized by any of the elements of the monument to artistic value. On August 4, a meeting of the Committee of the Riga Duma was scheduled, at which a decision will be made to finance the dismantling of the monument and subsequent improvement. According to some reports, the total amount can amount to about 2.1 million euros - this includes dismantling and converting the vacant area into the park.

Stakis said that the dismantling of the monument is only about 10 percent of the cost of the entire project. The company that will demolish the monument has already been selected, but for security reasons, the municipality not to disclose it ahead of time. For the same reason, the start of dismantling work is not announced.
