The European Union imposed additional sanctions on Yanukovych

The Council of the European Union has taken additional restrictive measures against former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr. Sanctions were introduced in connection with Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The specific reason is "their role in undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, the stability and security of the state, and also - in the case of Alexander Viktorovich Yanukovych - for conducting transactions with separatist groups in the Ukrainian region of Donbass."

Yanukovych, who has lived in Rostov-on-Don since 2014, has virtually no public activity. Only after the start of the war, he criticized the current Ukrainian authorities several times, urging them to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia. However, in March Ukrainian media reported, citing intelligence sources, that Russia might try to proclaim him President of Ukraine.
