The State Corporation Roscosmos brought to orbit the Iranian satellite of the remote sensing of the Earth "Hayyam". The launch of the Soyuz-2.1B launch vehicle took place at about 9 a.m. in Moscow from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. In Iran, they say that the satellite is designed for scientific research and monitoring of the Earth for agricultural and environmental purposes. The Washington Post, quoting anonymous sources in the Western Intelligence Community, stated that the device would provide Tehran "unprecedented opportunities" for almost constant intelligence observation of Israel and Persian Gulf.

The newspaper’s material claimed that Russia will receive control over Khayyam for several months for use in the Ukrainian war. The Russian group of reconnaissance satellites is incomparable in terms of capabilities with the NATO countries available to the NATO countries that provide intelligence information to Ukraine almost in real time.

The Iranian space agency on August 7 stated that Tehran would control the satellite from the first day of flight and will not transfer information to the third countries. In June last year, The Washington Post reported that Russia would provide Iran with a Kanopus-V satellite for military use. Moscow denied this, President Vladimir Putin called the message "nonsense", recalls " Interfax ".
