The court again extended the house arrest of the person involved in the case of the telegram channel “What-to-Delat!” Maria Platonova

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow extended until September 14 the house arrest of HSE student Maria Platonova, accused in the case of the telegram channel “What-to-Delat!” SOTA reports this with reference to her lawyer Gadzhi Aliyev.

In April, the court extended Platonova’s house arrest until August 14.

The girl is accused of inciting mass riots (Part 1.1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the student, together with the founder of the channel “What-to-Delat!” Dmitry Chebanov “created a network of telegram channels in which they posted publications and conducted campaigning activities aimed at organizing mass unrest” during the State Duma elections. The investigation believes that Platonova used the nickname “Vovan Zabivnoy” in her telegram channel.

The case file lists several messages from a user with this nickname. One of them, sent on the evening of September 5, reads: “Audacity is fire. We went out one by one with fires in order to make ourselves known at all, and we came out with fire, without a crowd behind us. They declared themselves to be a rather radical organization. The action went well, except for the arrests.”

The girl studies at the Higher School of Economics and before the criminal case, she worked as a designer in the election headquarters of the municipal deputy of the Shchukino district, Anastasia Bryukhanova, who was running for the State Duma, as well as with politician Maxim Katz. Platonova denies participation in the actions that the Investigative Committee accuses her of. The student has been under house arrest since October 17, 2021. The day before, she was detained after a search.

• On September 16, 2021, the Investigative Committee published a press release about the initiation of a case under the article on involvement in mass riots (Part 1.1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code) against the author of the telegram channel “What-to-Delat!” Dmitry Chebanov and “other persons”. This channel published posts calling for people to take part in protests “against the Putin regime.” In total, 12 people from different regions of Russia are involved in the case. Most of the accused are in custody, 11 of them are charged with involvement in mass riots. In addition, journalist Igor Kuznetsov from Tomsk is also accused of inciting hatred (Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code) and participation in an extremist community (Part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code) in connection with the case of the “Left Resistance” against Daria Polyudova and her comrades. Against the administrator of the telegram channel “Protest Novosibirsk” Anton Fedotov because of a repost from the channel “What to do!” A criminal case was opened under a milder article - calls for riots (Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code), and a preventive measure was chosen against him in the form of a ban on certain actions.
