The last folk architect of the USSR, author of the term "Soviet modernism" Felix Novikov died

In the USA, the Soviet architect Felix Novikov died, Kommersant reports.

Novikov was 95 years old. He died in the city of Rochester in the state of New York, where in recent years he lived with his family. The causes of his death are not specified.

• The most famous works of Novikov are the Palace of Pioneers on the Vorobyovy Mountains, the Krasnopresnenskaya metro station, the Bucharest department store and the Danilov market in Moscow, as well as the central ensemble of Zelenograd and the USSR Embassy in Mauritania.
• Novikov was one of the 45 owners of the rank of national architect of the USSR and the last to be awarded it in 1991, shortly before the collapse of the country.
• Novikov was also engaged in the popularization of architecture, more than 300 of his publications were published in professional and general press. He was the author of the term “Soviet modernism” - one of the main directions in the architecture of the USSR since 1955.
