VKontakte social network blocked the page of the St. Petersburg activist who had left Russia

At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the VKontakte social network blocked the page of the St. Petersburg activist Alexander Chirkov, who left Russia. He himself told the OVD-Info about this.

According to Chirkov, in the publication, due to which his page was blocked, it was about the proposal to compile a list of countries-enemies of terrorism.

On May 21, the man was detained at the Gostiny Dvor due to a single picket with the poster “No War” and drew up a protocol under the article on the discrediting of the army (part 1 of article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

• After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the Russian authorities began to react sharply to protest moods: they not only ordered to call the “special operation”, but also accepted the amendments on deprivation of liberty up to 15 years - for the distribution of “fakes” about the army of the Russian Federation. The disagreements are haunted not only under the new article of the Criminal Code: in different cases, security officials are charged with hooliganism, vandalism, the use of violence to authorities and other violations.
• At the same time, social networks began to massively block the pages of opposition activists, politicians, journalists, as well as public publications.
