Putin for the first time since 2017 increased the number of Armed Forces of the Russian Federation
Russian President Vladimir Putin increased the regular number of Russian armed forces from 1.9 million to 2.04 million. The number of military personnel will be 1.1 million, the rest will be civilian personnel. The decree will enter into force in January next year.
The reason for the increase in the army is unknown. Patriotic telegram channels suggest that this is due to the settlement of the status of volunteer detachments and formations in the Party, PMC, Cossack detachments and ethnic battalions.
Prior to this, Putin increased the armed forces in November 2017 - from 1.8 million in 2016 to 1.9 million.
