Russian President Vladimir Putin increased the regular number of Russian armed forces from 1.9 million to 2.04 million. The number of military personnel will be 1.1 million, the rest will be civilian personnel. The decree will enter into force in January next year.
The reason for the increase in the army is unknown. Patriotic telegram channels suggest that this is due to the settlement of the status of volunteer detachments and formations in the Party, PMC, Cossack detachments and ethnic battalions.

Prior to this, Putin increased the armed forces in November 2017 - from 1.8 million in 2016 to 1.9 million. Both in 2016 and in 2017, the number of military personnel remained the same (1 million), only the number of civilian personnel changed. In 2014, the staff of the Armed Forces was 845 thousand people.
