“He wanted to pierce my throat with a piece of glass”: an attack was carried out on the ex-head of the “Committee against Torture” Igor Kalyapin

A human rights activist, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia and the founder of the Committee against Torture, Igor Kalyapin, was attacked by a man. This happened in Kalyapin's own house in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the attacker introduced himself as a policeman.

It is reported that they tried to cut Kalyapin's face and strangle him. The attacker was arrested, his motives are established by law enforcement officers. Now the human rights activist is in the hospital with a concussion. According to him, his nose may be broken, "his head is buzzing, apparently a concussion." Now he is in the hospital. Kalyapin also commented on the incident:

“We were celebrating the birthday of a former officer and this man was there, he was introduced to me as an active [police] officer. We drank, everything was fine. Then I invited him to my house and he attacked me without saying a word. He naturally tried to kill me, he wanted to pierce my throat with a piece of glass. He was inadequate,” Kalyapin said, adding that he did not know if this could be related to his human rights activities.
