The two American cruisers Chancellorsville and Antietam entered the Taiwan Strait. This passage was the first since visit to Taiwan US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's in early August. Representatives of the US Navy specify that such operations usually take from eight to 12 hours.
In response, this military command of the PRC announced that it would keep the troops on alert and monitor the passage of American cruisers. The leadership of the US Navy assured that "the ships are transiting through the corridor in the strait, which is outside the territorial sea of any coastal state."
During Pelosi's visit to Taiwan in August, the Chinese authorities lifted Su-35 fighter jets into the air, which headed for the Taiwan Strait. Nevertheless, the visit took place: the Speaker of the House of Representatives arrived at Songshan Airport, where local residents came to greet her.
Taiwan is the only territory left under the control of the Republic of China (the official name of Taiwan) after the victory of the Chinese Communist Party in the civil war (1949) in the rest of the country. Beijing believes that Taiwan is a province of China, while many countries still perceive the Republic of China as a state independent of Beijing.
