At first glance, Russia is preparing for the next, if not reform, then at least a serious “perestroika” of the armed forces. On August 25, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on an increase in the staffing of the army (including civilian personnel) from January 1, 2023 by 137 thousand people - from 1 902 758 to 2 039 758. With the same decree, the staffing of the military personnel proper from 1,013,628 to 1,150,628 was increased. That is, the entire increase is precisely for soldiers and officers, the number of which will increase by about 13 percent.
Neither the military nor the political leadership of the country has yet commented on this innovation, even though the decree was, as expected, published in the Red Star and the Russian Newspaper. The topic was given to all kinds of military commentators. They agreed that the army increases due to the fact that the confrontation of Russia with the West is growing, which requires a decisive strengthening of the armed forces (some even said that the army should now increase to at least one and a half million soldiers and officers). At the same time, a military operation in Ukraine was named as a direct cause of an increase in the army.
So, according to the editor -in -chief of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine, Viktor Murakhovsky, the growth of the army should occur due to the inclusion of the so -called “personalized” volunteer battalions in it, which have been formed in various subjects of the Federation since May. According to him, we can talk about the fifty of such battalions and mouth. True, if you remember the figure, which, according to the decree, the standard number will grow, it should be assumed that not even battalions, but entire brigades will have to be formed.
The explanation worthy of attention was proposed by a corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences Alexander Bartosh: “The liberated territories will be considered ours only after our armed forces are placed there on an ongoing basis. It will be necessary to provide protection of cities and villages. ” Indeed, in this case, it is necessary to solve a non -banal problem to create a border (or a stable line of separation) where it never existed, and ensure its army cover. That is, place garrisons in settlements, put checkpoints on thousands of roads. This will certainly require a large number of troops.
