Sosnovy Bor is a city 100 kilometers from the center of St. Petersburg, known primarily thanks to the Leningrad nuclear power plant (LAES). In addition to the city -forming enterprise in the pine forest, there are other attractions: from the only museum of contemporary art in the Leningrad region to the constructivist Orthodox church.

Before the revolution, in this place, on the shore of the Koporskaya Bay of the Gulf of Finland, there was a village of Ustye: from 1889 to 1914, a naval school worked there. In 1958, the settlement was renamed Sosnovy Bor and assigned it the status of a working village.
In the 1960s, Sosnovy Bor began to turn into the regional center of nuclear industry: they opened the Lenspetskinat “Radon” and a branch of the Kurchatov atomic energy Institute, and on December 23, 1973, the first LAES power unit was launched. The station works today-in the 2010s, the second nuclear power plant was built next to the first. Its two power units have already been put into operation, two more in line.
In connection with the work of the LAES, the entrance to Sosnovy Bor for a long time was limited, but in 2013 special passes were canceled: now only foreigners need to receive them, and Russian citizens can get into the city freely. The same entry procedure is valid now.

How to get
By train
The railway station in the pine forest is called Kalishche, trains go to it from the Baltic station. Drive 100-110 minutes, the price of tickets is from 195 to 225 rubles. The train schedule can be found on the SZPKC website .
By bus
Bus No. 401 goes from the Avosovo metro station to the pine boron. More information about the options for traveling public transport is presented on the website of the local administration .
By bus
From the center of St. Petersburg to a pine boron - about 100 kilometers. The easiest way goes along the road: you need to move out of the road in the area of the Krasnoflotskoye Shosse, and then continue driving parallel to the coastline. The road will take about an hour and a half.
What to see
Dunes and city beach
On the coast of the Gulf of Finland in the pine forest you can see dunes - sand hills, the height of which reaches a dozen meters. Pines grow on the hills, and on the shore there is a city beach with a length of more than two kilometers. The site is not as well -maintained as the beaches in the resort area, but there are still benches and locker rooms.
The bay in this place is very small, so you need to go to the depths for a long time: that is why many prefer bathing in the Kovashi River, the mouth of which is located in the northern part of the beach. In addition, this location is great for the bridge: the sand here is light and clean, and there are fewer people than on other beaches near St. Petersburg. The LAES is located south, which from the beach is clearly visible-it is not surprising that several years ago, artists installed an art object in the form of a prototype of a nuclear power plant on the shore.

- You can get to the beach through Sosnovy Bor, you can through it on a bicycle, scooter and rollers. Do not want to go - you can get to the suspended bridge by car, to the beach [from there] a stone's throw.

Primorsky Park
The green zone with coniferous and deciduous trees is located east of the city beach, last year the territory was updated - the land improvement project won the All -Russian competition of the best projects to create a comfortable urban environment.
There are paths for cyclists and pedestrians, swings, a snail, a volleyball center and a skate platform in the park. Also, the Glukhovka river flows through the territory of the green zone, along the banks of which sunlights were put up. In the future, it is planned to open the fair rows, as well as the creation of a special camping zone with a length of one kilometer. Another park of pine boron - “ White Sands ” - is located near Primorsky, on the other side of Leningradskaya Street.

- The most visited place in the city. Equipped with coverage of the path from the monument to Alexandrov is led along the Glukhovka river to the city beach. A wonderful place to relax with children. Toilets and playgrounds are present.
- There is only one problem that has encountered. Paths for pedestrians and cyclists are united: there are many pedestrians, children and mothers with strollers, they involuntarily occupy the entire width of the path. Cyclists do not relax.
- We were on the weekend, found a lively performance of the orchestra on stage next to the entrance. They played the classics, I really liked it.
"Andersengrad"
“Andersengrad” is a children's town stylized under European medieval architecture and inspired by the work of Hans Christian Andersen. He was designed by an honorary resident of Sosnovy Bor architect Yuri Savchenko, and construction lasted about five years. The town was opened in 1980, it occupies an area of about two football fields.
On the territory you can see a dozen towers, a fountain complex with a pool, the sculpture of the Mermaid, Andersen’s bas -relief, the owl stone lantern, the statue of a persistent tin soldier and other objects related to the work of the Danish storyteller. In addition, at Andersengrad, hundreds of children's events are held annually-from performances to competitions and master classes.

- Clean, beautiful and atmospheric. The entrance is free. On the territory there are cycle lines for adults and children (120 ₽ in 10 minutes). There are toilets.
- There is where to take a walk, around the pine tree! In the summer, of course, more activities, fountains work. But so good, beautiful places for the photo.
Sosnovoborsky Art Museum
The exhibition space in the pine forest is the only museum of contemporary art in the Leningrad region, it was opened in 1991. The site collaborates with the Russian Museum, the works of Soviet and Russian artists are presented in its collection: Oleg Yakhnin , Tatyana Yablonskaya , Andrei Karshak and other authors.
Periodically, the museum hold temporary exhibitions, lectures, master classes, creative meetings and children's events-for example, competitions.

- For a city with great intellectual potential, the museum is weak. One big hall. During the visit, several exhibitions took place: graphs about the war, banknotes of the occupation period from different countries. In general, it was interesting to see, but I would like in the pine forest a more interesting and rich in the content of the museum.
- We went to an exhibition of patchwork. The exposition is small, but rather unusual. Pictures are made on fabric using patchwork technique. The original idea of execution. It will be interesting to everyone who is interested in contemporary art.
Cathedral "Unpalaced bourgeois"
An unopened bubina is an image from the Old Testament, a fireproofing thorns bush in which God appeared to Moses. In Orthodoxy, this symbol is associated with the iconography of the Mother of God - one of the icons of the Virgin Mary can be seen, for example, in the Solovetsky monastery.
The temple in the pine forest was devoted to just such an icon. The construction of a spacious cathedral for 800 parishioners was completed at the end of 2005. “Inexperienced Cupin” is not the only temple of the city, but definitely the most unusual from an architectural point of view. The structure is made in the spirit of constructivism and somewhat resembles an industrial object.

Sights in the area of pine boron
There are also curious attractions next to the pine forest - for example, the fortress of Koporye on the edge of the Izhora Upland. The first defensive structures in this place were erected in the 13th century, and the current type of fortress was given three centuries later. You can get to the fortress from the pine boron only by car, the road will take about half an hour. A visit is possible only in the excursion group: Contacts for recording - here .
Another remarkable object in this area is Shepelevsky Lighthouse , a 38-meter round brick tower on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland. This is a valid lighthouse, so you can’t get inside, but a small sandy beach is located next to the object.

- The infrastructure is not developed. To spend the night and eat - only two establishments. The set of souvenirs is not rich. Excursions go once an hour. Parking is very close.

The public catering industry in the pine forest is well developed.
