The Carnegie Moscow Center announced the cessation of work in Russia

The Carnegie Moscow Center, which represented the American Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Russia, has ceased its work. This was reported in the telegram channel Carnegie Politika.

The Fund clarified that it had complied with the order of the Russian Ministry of Justice dated April 8, 2022, and stressed that it would continue to publish analytics about Russia, Ukraine and neighboring countries.

On April 8, the Justice Department removed the Carnegie Endowment from the register of branches and representative offices of international organizations and foreign non-profit non-governmental organizations (NGOs). At the same time, human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, in particular, were excluded from the registers.

The branches of the German Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Rosa Luxembourg Foundation and the German Research Society were also removed from the register.

The Ministry of Justice claims that this is due to "violations of the current legislation" by organizations.

The Ministry of Justice actually closed the Russian representative offices of these NGOs, since after this decision, the organizations should be deregistered by the tax authorities, and they cannot pay for the work of employees.
