Energoatom announced the complete disconnection of the Zaporozhye NPP from the power grid for the second time in history

The Ukrainian state-owned company Energoatom reported that the Zaporozhye NPP was completely disconnected from the Ukrainian energy system for the second time in the history of the plant. This is stated in the statement of the company, published in the telegram channel.

“Today, September 5, 2022, as a result of a fire caused by shelling, the 330 kV ZATES-Ferrosplavnaya power line was disconnected, that is, the last line that connected the ZAES/ZATES node with the energy system of Ukraine! As a result, the 6th power unit was unloaded and disconnected from the network, which now feeds its own needs at the Zaporizhzhya NPP,” the statement said.

According to the company's employees, over the past three days, Russian troops have continued intensive shelling of the area around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. As a result, the Dnieper, Kakhovskaya and Melitopol power lines were damaged and disconnected. The remaining lines of the ZNPP/ZATES junction were damaged even earlier.

In the morning, most of the experts included in the IAEA mission left the ZNPP territory. Part of the delegation, including the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, left Energodar on the evening of September 1. Several IAEA experts left on September 5, while two more remained.

For the first time Zaporozhye NPP was completely disconnected from the Ukrainian power grid on August 25. The NPP's own needs for power supply were provided from the energy system of Ukraine through the ZNPP-Zaporozhskaya TPP communication line.
