Russia has terminated the agreement with Japan on a simplified visit to the Southern Kuril Islands. The corresponding resolution is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The termination of the agreement from 1999 will affect Japanese citizens and their families who lived in the past on the islands of Kunashir, Iturup or other islands of the Malaya Kuril ridge belonging to the Sakhalin Region of the Russian Federation. These islands in 1946 became part of the USSR.

In early July, Japan expanded the list of sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities, military and companies, and also established a ban on the import of Russian gold and export of goods that contribute to the strengthening of Russia's industry. In addition, Japan has banned from September 5 to provide Russia with services in the field of overlay, consulting and audit.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Japan "in its foreign policy in relation to our country behaves as if it is a member of the United States by halfstat." According to Zakharova, the country's authorities "participate in every initiative of Washington and London, directed against our country."
