The European Commission will allocate 500 million euros to Ukraine for construction, education and agriculture

The European Commission signed an agreement with Ukraine for the allocation of assistance in the amount of 500 million euros. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal.

During a press conference, European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer said that EU funds will be used to finance housing and education for internally displaced persons and repatriates, as well as to develop the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

In addition, during the meeting, representatives of Ukraine and the EU signed other agreements: participation in the Digital Europe program, cooperation in customs and taxation, and an increase in the grant budget for Ukraine by 122 million euros.

On September 4, the German authorities announced that they would allocate an additional 200 million euros to Ukraine to help internal migrants. It was assumed that on Sunday German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Denis Shmygal would sign an agreement on assistance.

According to the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM), by August 23, there were 6.9 million internal migrants in Ukraine. Most of the resettlement since the summer takes place in the south and east of the country, the organization notes. The IOM also said that 44% of internal migrants of working age do not receive income, and only a third say the main source of funds after moving is salary. According to the organization, 24% of IDPs rely on government support.
