The administration of the Zaporozhye NPP is preparing to shut down the last operating reactor due to shelling.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for an end to hostilities and shelling of the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP due to power outages at the station.

He emphasized that as a result of recent shelling, the station has lost the external power supply that is required for the reactor cooling systems and the safe operation of the entire station.

“Together, this significantly increases the risk of a nuclear accident. The shelling around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant must stop,” Grossi tweeted.

He also reported. that the administration of the Zaporozhye NPP, due to the lack of guarantees for the restoration of the external power supply to the station after a night shelling, is considering the possibility of stopping the only reactor currently operating

At night, after another shelling, the entire city of Energodar, near which the ZNPP is located, and several other nearby settlements were left without electricity.

The city authorities explained the blackout by the fact that in the area of ​​the Zaporizhzhya thermal power plant, electrical distribution equipment was damaged as a result of the shelling.
