Republic renounced its status as a registered media outlet and the certificate was terminated as of September 1, the editorial office said in a statement .

But Republic, of course, continues to work. We simply decided that at the moment, the status of a media outlet registered in Russia entails too many meaningless obligations (labels of “foreign agent” media, stricter censorship restrictions, etc.) and does not actually give any additional rights.

After the refusal, Moscow Digital Media LLC, included in the register of foreign agents, is no longer the publisher of the Republic Magazine media. After the lawyers’ work is completed, the publication will stop labeling its website pages and other messages as “foreign agent.”
