Leonid Gozman was detained as he left a special detention center where he spent 15 days. He faces a new arrest for a blog post from nine years ago

Politician Leonid Gozman was detained at a special detention center when he was released after serving a 15-day administrative arrest, Dozhd reports.

The politician's lawyer Mikhail Biryukov said that he would be kept overnight at the police station. Gozman is charged with the article on re-identifying the USSR with Nazi Germany (13.48 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, part 2) for a post on LiveJournal.

In a conversation with Meduza, Biryukov clarified that he was referring to a post in which Gozman criticized the Smersh series that had been released shortly before. The politician wrote, in particular, that “the word itself — ‘Smersh’ — should be on par with the words ‘SS’, ‘NKVD’, and ‘Gestapo’.”

The lawyer also told Meduza that on September 16, 72-year-old Gozman was supposed to go to his daughter in Berlin, and he already had tickets.

In late August, Gozman was arrested under the first part of the same article of the Code of Administrative Offenses for a Facebook post written in 2020. "Hitler is absolute evil, but Stalin is even worse. The SS are criminals, but the NKVD is even more terrible because the Chekists killed their own. Hitler unleashed a war on humanity. The communists declared total war on their own people," the politician wrote.

• Gozman left Russia after the war began, but later returned. He said it was a "moral choice."
