Novaya Gazeta was fined 400 thousand rubles under an article about discrediting the army

On September 13, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow fined Novaya Gazeta 400 thousand rubles, finding the publication guilty of discrediting the Russian army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code). This was reported on the Novaya website.

The reason for drawing up the protocol was three articles on the website “New Story-Newspaper”: the text by Alexander Minkin “Mirror of the Russian Resolution” (about the language used to draw up protocols in the police), the material by Kirill Fokin “Chronicles of the Arkanar squabble” (about international relations now) and article by Andrey Kolesnikov “The Empire Must Go Brutal” (about the ideology of empires). Novaya Gazeta notes that neither the armed forces of the Russian Federation nor their use were discussed anywhere in the texts themselves.

The website “New Story-Newspaper” (novaya.no) was launched in July by the team of “Novaya Gazeta” - after it suspended the publication of materials due to the war in Ukraine. Eight days after its launch, the Novaya project was blocked at the request of Roskomnadzor.

• On March 28, Novaya Gazeta suspended the publication of its materials “on the website, in networks and on paper” until the end of the war in Ukraine. The reason for this was the second written warning from Roskomnadzor in a month. On September 5, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow declared the license of Novaya Gazeta invalid due to the fact that the publication changed its founder in 2006, but did not submit its charter to Roskomnadzor.
• After the suspension of the work of Novaya Gazeta, its editors also launched the Novaya Gazeta website abroad. Europe". On April 29, it was also blocked in Russia.
• On February 24, Roskomnadzor demanded that the media write about the war in Ukraine only with reference to official Russian sources. Journalists were also prohibited from calling the “Russian special operation” an attack, invasion, or declaration of war. Otherwise, the supervisory authority threatened with blocking and fines of up to five million rubles. Since then, Roskomnadzor has blocked more than 7,000 sites (according to Roskomsvoboda as of August 23).
