After the start of the war in Ukraine, Russian airlines began to force pilots to quit. This was announced by the president of the Sheremetyevo trade union of the flight personnel (SHPLS) Igor Deldyuzhov in a letter to the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko, which drew the attention of Aviatorshchina.

Delyudyuzhov said that after passing the simulators and tests, the instructor submits a report on the appointment of an extraordinary flight test to the pilot, which he does not pass, "because the airline's task is to reduce the number of personnel in any way." The airline then decides on its own whether to disqualify the pilot, the letter says. Inspections take place twice a year.

According to Delyudyuzhov, several dozen pilots from various airlines complained about the layoffs. At the same time, you can ask for dismissal only through the courts.

The day before, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) downgraded to 77.4% its assessment of the effectiveness of the implementation of "airworthiness" standards in Russia. “In 2022, the ICAO identified a major security concern regarding Russia’s ability to properly control aircraft under its jurisdiction,” they said.
