The speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi arrived in Yerevan. This was reported by News.am and Armenpress .
On September 17-19, Pelosi will meet with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the speaker of parliament Alena Simonyan and other officials, writes News.am with reference to the American embassy in Yerevan.
The speaker of the House of Congress has become the most senior US official who visited Armenia since the country gained independence.
“The visit of the Congress delegation to Armenia is a powerful symbol of the firm commitment of the USA peaceful, prosperous and democratic Armenia, as well as a stable and safe Caucasus,” Pelosi said before the visit.
She noted that in 2019, the US Congress, and later President Joe Biden recognized the Armenian genocide , and added: “The moral duty of all is to never forget [this] an obligation that has gained particular relevance, since the atrocities are committed around the world, including by Russia against Ukraine.”
