Self-proclaimed DPR accuses Ukraine of shelling colony in Elenovka

The territorial defense headquarters of the self-proclaimed DPR stated that Ukrainian troops fired artillery at a penal colony in Elenovka , where Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held.

It is claimed that one prisoner was killed and four were wounded as a result.

The Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on these reports.

• The colony in Elenovka, located in the Russian-controlled territory of Donetsk Oblast, is reportedly housing fighters from the Azov Regiment who surrendered in mid-May.
• On July 29, Russia announced that 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war had been killed and 73 wounded in a Ukrainian shelling there. Ukrainian authorities said that Russia itself had carried out the explosion to cover up “traces of torture and executions of prisoners.”
• In July, Russia claimed it had "officially invited" experts from the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) "in the interests of conducting an objective investigation" into what happened in Yelenovka. In September, the Red Cross said it had never been granted access to the colony.
