Members of the HRC ask the Prosecutor General to explain the sending of prisoners to war

Members of the Russian Presidential Council on Human Rights turned to the Prosecutor General of the country Igor Krasnov with a request to clarify the grounds for the liberation of prisoners who participate in the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

The text of the appeal is published on the website of the human rights council of St. Petersburg. In it, human rights activists indicate that by law to release a prisoner who has not served the term of imprisonment, possibly under an amnesty by a resolution of the State Duma, if the presidential decree was pardoned or on parole, the decision is made by the court.

However, as members of the HRC pay attention, recently in the pro -government media, information has been widely distributed about the possibility of the release of prisoners participating in the hostilities in Ukraine. "In connection with the foregoing, we ask you to clarify on what basis these persons are exempted from serving the conclusion, if this information is true," the letter says.

The appeal was signed by Alexander Verkhovsky, Natalya Evdokimova, Igor Kalyapin, Eva Merkacheva, Vladimir Ryakhovsky and Nikolai Svanidze.
