The appeal hearing on the appeal against the verdict against Aleksey Gorinov was held behind closed doors today. Neither relatives of the municipal deputy nor journalists were allowed into the hall.
The defense asked for an acquittal, referring to the fact that the decision of the Meshchansky Court was issued with numerous violations. In his last speech, Gorinov declared that his case was "a disgrace to the country."
“I want to plead guilty. Blame before the long-suffering people of Ukraine. Before the entire world community. The blame is that I, as a citizen of my country, could not do anything, could not prevent the ongoing madness in any way. I also apologize for the fact that, apparently, there is nothing I can do to stop it. I also say this on behalf of my compatriots who are overcome by fear of repression, from whom I receive many letters in my support,” Gorinov said in court.
On July 8, Gorinov was sentenced to seven years in prison for spreading "fake news" about the Russian army. The municipal deputy of Moscow was the first to be sentenced to a real term under this article.
According to investigators, on March 15 at a meeting of municipal deputies of the Krasnoselsky district, Gorinov slandered the Russian military. As evidence, the prosecutor presented a video where Gorinov proposes to start the meeting with a minute of silence and cancel the competition of children's drawings, because a holiday during the war is like a "feast during the plague."
