Lawyer: after his arrest, a Ural anti-fascist was beaten with a baton and forced to do squats

Details of the detention of a veterinarian from Yekaterinburg, Daniil Chertykov, have become known - he is involved in the case of Ural anti-fascists, whom the investigation considers a terrorist community. Lawyer Andrei Bekin told 7x7 that his client was beaten and tortured by security forces.

According to the lawyer, Chertykov was detained late in the evening and forced into an SUV.

“They put him between the rows of seats and, according to the detainee, they put their feet on him. Then they brought me to the department and sat me on a chair. They began to interrogate him and periodically beat him on the legs and back of the head with a baton. Several times they forced me to do squats and count. Chertykov told the lawyer that he had done at least a hundred squats. Then they took me home, conducted a search, returned me to the department and continued,” writes 7x7, according to the defense lawyer.

Then Chertykov was brought to Tyumen, where the young man was asked the same questions, but no longer beaten. Bekin is preparing a statement to the Investigative Committee regarding the torture of his client.

Earlier, two other defendants in this case - Yuri Neznamov and Roman Paklin - said that they were subjected to electric shock and water torture . So, according to Neznamov, they strangled him with a bag, tied him up and sent an electric current through his body. Paklin reported that similar torture was applied to him - after this, the young man began to have pain in his heart and his arm was paralyzed.

Searches of anti-fascists from Tyumen, Yekaterinburg and Surgut took place in August, after which six people were sent to pre-trial detention.

According to investigators , one of the defendants in the case, Nikita Oleinik from Surgut, “created a terrorist community” because of “his hatred of the current government regime.” A case was opened against him under the article on the creation of a terrorist community (Part 1 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code). Against the other five defendants - Daniil Chertykov, Deniz Aidyn, Kirill Brik, Yuri Neznamov and Roman Paklin - under the article on participation in a terrorist community (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code).

The investigation believes that Oleynik involved his friends in this group for a year in order to “carry out terrorist activities” in the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk regions and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

The investigation considers Brik and Aydin to be “manufacturers” of explosives, so they are also accused under the article on the manufacture of homemade explosives (Part 2 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code). Earlier, information appeared that during a search, a homemade explosive device was found on the young people. According to investigators, the young people allegedly planned to test it in the area of ​​the Tyumen Thermal Power Plant.

Veterinarian Chertykov, according to security forces, was the group’s doctor and supplied the participants with unnamed drugs.

The anti-fascist community believes that young people are being persecuted primarily for their anti-authoritarian views, comparing what is happening with the Network case.

On September 21, the Tyumen Case channel published the full text of Daniil Chertykov’s lawyer’s survey. In it, the young man described in detail how he was forced to incriminate himself and other defendants in the case. According to him, he was beaten during the arrest, then forced to do squats at the police station, then taken to a search. After the search, Chertykov was returned to the police department, where the abuse continued. The handcuffs on his hands were kept tight, causing him to experience severe pain.

“They told me that I faced up to life imprisonment and demanded that I give testimony that would be similar to what was read to me. I was forced to give the testimony they asked for,” said Chertykov. He also claims that for about an hour he heard screams from the next office and recognized Yuri Neznamov’s voice.

Chertykov says that he traveled to Surgut for work, but had never been to Tyumen.

• A criminal case against the terrorist community “Network” was opened in October 2017. According to the FSB, 11 young people from Penza, Moscow and St. Petersburg were going to overthrow the government. Some defendants in the case alleged psychological pressure, electric shock, beatings and planted weapons. Some of them retracted the confessions they gave in the first days after the arrests. In 2020, the defendants in the case from Penza and St. Petersburg were sentenced to terms ranging from 3.5 to 18 years in prison.
