The Federation Council adopted amendments to the Criminal Code on “mobilization” and “wartime”

The Federation Council approved the amendments adopted by the State Duma the day before, which introduce the concepts of “mobilization”, “martial law” and “wartime” into the Criminal Code, as well as punishments for surrender, looting, abandoning a unit and failure to comply with an order.

In addition, the senators approved a law on granting Russian citizenship in a simplified manner to those who served a year in the Russian army under a contract.

The day before, the State Duma unanimously approved these changes immediately in the second and third readings. The adopted bill adds two new articles to the Criminal Code - "Voluntary Surrender" (Article 352.1) and "Looting" (Article 356.1).

So, for the surrender - if there are no signs of treason - will now face from three to 10 years in prison. For looting - up to 15 years in prison. At the same time, the articles contain aggravating circumstances - “during the period of mobilization or martial law, in wartime” (Article 63).

Also, the amendments toughened the responsibility for the unauthorized abandonment of the unit. So, if the military left the part in "during the period of mobilization or martial law, in wartime" for up to 10 days, he faces up to five years in prison. If a soldier leaves the unit for a month - seven years, and if more than a month, then already 10 years.
