The court extended the arrest of four defendants in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case for four months.

The Southern District Military Court prematurely extended the arrest of four defendants in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case Rustem Murasov, Rustem Tairov, Dzhebbar Bekirov and Zavur Abdullayev until January 23. It is reported by "Crimean solidarity".

During the meeting on September 26, the defendants asked to change their preventive measure to house arrest, calling the conditions in the pre-trial detention centers torture. “You have a unique opportunity to do this - to make a difference. We are respectable people, we are ready to come to meetings and defend our honor and dignity, justify our good name,” Murasov said.

At the same time, the prosecution filed a counter-petition for the extension of the pre-trial detention center, which the court granted. “We do not hear from the prosecutor specific reasons why the accused cannot be kept at home. Our clients are interested in justice to prevail in order to protect their rights,” added Abdullayev’s lawyer Emin Jafarov.

On August 17, 2021, security forces conducted mass searches in the homes of Crimean Tatars, during which they detained five people - Rustem Murasov, Rustem Tairov, Dzhebbar Bekirov, Zavur Abdullayev and Raif Fevziev. All of them are in custody. Bekirov and Fevziev are accused of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (part 1 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code), and the others of participating in it (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code). Fevziev's case is considered separately.

In January, a criminal case was also opened against the Crimeans on preparations for the seizure of power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code).

Its participants are accused and sentenced to real terms only on the basis that they met in apartments, read religious literature and recruited new participants. • As of September 16, 2022, at least 337 people are being persecuted in connection with involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, of which 27 are wanted. At least 227 people were convicted, of which 181 defendants were sentenced to terms of more than ten years in prison. Most of the defendants - 100 people - from the Crimea and Sevastopol. In second place is Tatarstan: in connection with involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir, at least 80 people from this region are being persecuted. In third place is Bashkortostan (at least 50 people). Human rights activists took into account in these statistics only those defendants whose names are known.
