The commander in the Western Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has changed. RBC writes about this with reference to the source and data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
Major General Roman Berdnikov became commander instead of Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlev. At the same time, RBC notes, on the website of the Ministry of Defense, Zhuravlev is still listed as the commander of the district.
Berdnikov graduated from the Kyiv Suvorov Military School in 1991. Since 2021, he has commanded the Russian grouping in Syria.
Zhuravlev has headed the ZVO since 2018, in the same year he received the title of Hero of Russia. As Fontanka draws attention, he last appeared in public space in May 2022, when the Ministry of Defense announced the presentation of awards to “servicemen who showed courage and heroism during a special military operation.”
