The Court of Appeal has allowed Antokha MC not to pay the former producer 2.5 million rubles for the rights to his songs

The Ninth Court of Appeal overturned the decision to collect compensation from musician Antokha MC (real name - Anton Kuznetsov) to former producer Eduard Shumeiko. The performer reported this on Instagram .

"The three judges examined the case thoroughly and rightly overturned the decision of the court of first instance. The court took into account both the fact that the producer failed to fulfill the agreement on the transfer of rights and the fact that the artist cannot be held liable for performing his own songs, which he transferred to the producer for the development of his creative activity," the statement quotes the musician's lawyer Anna Markelova as saying.

In July, the Moscow Arbitration Court ordered Kuznetsov to pay 2.52 million rubles in compensation for the public performance of his songs, according to Shumeiko’s claim.

• Anton Kuznetsov's conflict with Eduard Shumeiko became known in October 2021. In an interview with Meduza, the musician said that he had signed a cooperation agreement with the producer in 2018 for a period of ten years, without going into the legal details of the document. The musician was satisfied with the cooperation for two years, but when he wanted to terminate the agreement, he found out that Shumeiko owned the rights to his creative pseudonym and songs in perpetuity. The producer responded by filing a lawsuit against Kuznetsov, demanding compensation for the fact that he continues to perform his songs.
• In November 2021, Antokha MC announced that he had terminated the contract with the producer and lost the rights to his songs. The artist also paid Shumeiko three million rubles - a penalty for early termination of the contract and termination of cooperation. According to Antokha MC, he had to take out a loan for this.
