The ECHR awarded compensation to the leader of the “Left Resistance” Daria Polyudova

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled on compensation of two thousand euros to the leader of the Left Resistance, Daria Polyudova. The court made this decision in response to complaints about Polyudova’s excessively long detention in custody during a criminal investigation in 2020–2021. This was reported by Network Freedoms with reference to the ECHR website .

On May 31, 2021, Polyudova was found guilty on two counts: in connection with reposting a video about Aslan Maskhadov and Shamil Basayev on the social network VKontakte (“justifying terrorism” on the Internet - part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code); and also because of statements about the actions of Yevgeny Manyurov, who on December 19, 2019 opened fire near the FSB building on Lubyanka (the investigation stated that Polyudova spoke about this publicly).

According toMediazona , the indictment stated that Polyudova, in front of other passers-by, called Yevgeny Manyurov’s actions correct (“calls for extremist activity” - Part 1 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code). At first, this episode was classified under the article on “public justification of terrorist activities” (Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), but later the charge was softened.

Polyudova was detained on January 15, 2020, and on May 31, 2021, a military court sentenced her to six years in prison. In December 2021, a new case was opened against her - about the creation of an extremist community (Part 1 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

• As part of the 2020 case, Polyudova was also charged under the article on calls for separatism (Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code), however, in February 2021 it became known that the prosecutor’s office granted the defense’s request to terminate the prosecution under this article due to its partial decriminalization .
• In 2014–2015, Polyudova was accused of calling for extremism and separatism. Then she was sentenced to two years in a penal colony.
• On June 11, Putin signed a law allowing the Russian government not to implement ECHR decisions taken after March 15, 2022, the day the Russian Federation left the Council of Europe.
