At the summit of the CIS heads in Astana, Alexander Lukashenko said that in Belarus "in connection with the aggravation of the situation along the perimeter of our borders" a regime of "increased terrorist threat" was introduced.
“We have begun procedures with the deployment of an allied group of troops, the basis of which is the army of Belarus, which is already supplemented by units of the Russian Federation. Everything is according to plan,” Lukashenka said, answering a question from a journalist at the summit.
Earlier, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that a counter-terrorist operation regime had been introduced in the country due to "provocations from neighboring states." In his opinion, "individual states" are planning provocations, "connected almost with the seizure of certain sections of the territory of Belarus." The Foreign Minister's statement was refuted by a source of the BelTA news agency in the KGB.
Now in Belarus, according to the BelTA report, “planned training events are taking place in order to maintain a high level of readiness of the subjects of the fight against terrorism to carry out tasks as intended.”
Nasha Niva, citing sources, said that a covert mobilization would be carried out in Belarus under the guise of a combat readiness check. The number of people who are going to be mobilized is still unknown. The first stage will not affect big cities, rural residents will be mobilized, sources say.
