There is a secret unit in the Main Computer Center of the Armed Forces that is responsible for the shelling of residential buildings in Ukraine - The Insider, Bellingcat and Der Spiegel

Investigators from The Insider, Bellingcat and Der Spiegel have found a secret unit within the Main Computing Center (MCC) of the Russian Armed Forces and have identified 30 military engineers who are aiming missiles at civilian targets in Ukraine.

The journalists studied the metadata of telephone conversations of the head of the center, Major General Robert Baranov. An analysis of his calls from February 24 to the end of April 2022 showed that every time before launching cruise missiles, Colonel Igor Bagnyuk called him. He, in turn, contacted more than 20 military engineers and IT specialists from the Main Computer Center. Journalists also found a correlation between the type of missiles and specific employees of the MCC.

The investigation notes that most of these people are young men and women who worked in the field of information technology and even participated in the development of computer games.

When The Insider began calling the gunmen, they all admitted that these phone numbers belonged to them, but categorically denied that they worked at the MCC. Captain Sergei Ilyin, who programs the Kalibrov's flight paths, said he was a plumber. Lieutenant Artem Vedenov, who is responsible for pointing the R-500, said he works on a pig farm. Captain Yuri Nikonov said that he was a bus driver and information about his work with Caliber was "some kind of nonsense." Major Ivan Popov noted that he was just learning to program in Python, he didn’t know about any computer center, and it was pointless to ask him about Caliber. Lieutenant Yekaterina Chugunova, who also works with Caliber, replied that she owns a flower shop.

On the morning of October 10, Russian troops shelled the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine. At least 20 civilians were killed and 108 wounded.
