A Nizhny Novgorod teacher was charged in a criminal case for “discrediting” the army

A photographer and teacher from Nizhny Novgorod, Ilya Myaskovsky, was charged in a criminal case for “discrediting” the army due to posts on VKontakte (Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by OVD-Info with reference to lawyer Alexei Matasov.

As a preventive measure, the court ordered the Nizhny Novgorod resident to ban certain actions. The reason for the criminal case was posts in a group on VKontakte about anti-war actions, drawings and laying flowers at the site of self-immolation of journalist Irina Slavina.

According to OVD-Info, on October 4, security forces came to Myaskovsky’s home for an inspection. The teacher was detained, and the next day he was arrested for three days under the article of disobedience to the demands of a police officer (Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code). Security forces claim that the man refused to identify himself during the police visit to his apartment.

President Vladimir Putin signed a law punishing “discrediting” the army in early March. In case of a repeated administrative violation within a year, the person faces a criminal case under the new Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code.
