The Deputy Minister of Transport who oversaw the safety of the Crimean Bridge was dismissed

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin dismissed Deputy Minister of Transport Alexander Sukhanov “at his request.” The order was published on the portal of regulatory acts.

Sukhanov oversaw “transport security issues ”, as well as the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “ Department Departmental Security of the Ministry of Transport”. The Krasnodar and Kerch branches of the enterprise were responsible for security on the Crimean Bridge. After the explosion on the bridge, Putin transferred these powers to the FSB.

RBC, citing sources close to the Ministry of Transport, announced on October 20 Sukhanov’s resignation due to the explosion.

The explosion on the Crimean Bridge occurred early in the morning of October 8. Emergency services reported that four people were killed, including an arbitration judge from Moscow. In addition, after a strong fire, the automobile part of the bridge partially collapsed into the water.

According to the FSB and the Investigative Committee, the explosion of a truck on the bridge was organized by employees of the main intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the explosive device, hidden in rolls of plastic film, was transported from Odessa through Bulgaria, Armenia and Georgia, substituting documents.
