Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov Calls US and British Military Over 'Dirty Bomb'. Shoigu Had Such Conversations Earlier

The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, has contacted senior military officials in the UK and the US by telephone regarding the situation with a " dirty bomb " that Ukraine could allegedly use.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Gerasimov held talks with the Chief of the British Defense Staff Anthony Radakin and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Mark Milley.

Following the talks, the British side reported that Admiral Radakin rejected Russia's unfounded claims that Ukraine was planning actions aimed at escalating the conflict, and also stressed Britain's determination to continue to support Ukraine.

The US has not yet commented on the situation.

  • On October 23, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu contacted the defense ministers of France , Turkey , Great Britain , and the United States by telephone. In at least three cases, Shoigu spoke of “possible provocations by Ukraine using a ‘dirty bomb’.”
  • On October 24, the foreign ministries of France, Britain and the United States said they rejected "clearly false accusations from Russia." NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called Russian warnings about a "dirty bomb" absurd. Kiev said it did not have any "dirty bomb" and that only Russia could use one in Ukraine.
