In 75 regions of Russia, almost 31 thousand men urgently entered into marriage after the announcement of mobilization, writes Mediazona , based on its own calculations.
The law allows marriage to be concluded on the day of filing an application (and not a month later) in the presence of special circumstances, which, as the publication writes, include receiving a summons. Family members can claim compensation for the injury or death of a mobilized person, as well as support from regional authorities.
For 39 regions, Mediazona used data on “accelerated” weddings published by local authorities, civil registry offices, or the media, and for 36 regions, it calculated the number of “excess” weddings itself, based on data on the number of weddings in September.
Civil registry offices in 17 regions provided journalists with data on the number of marriages, allowing a breakdown by week. They show that in the last two weeks of the month (from September 19 to 30), the number of marriages increased: for example, in Buryatia, before mobilization, there were an average of 83 weddings per week, and during it — 662; in Perm Krai — an average of 313 and 804 weddings, in Omsk Oblast — 245 and 463 weddings.
Mediazona believes that this data can be used to calculate the total number of mobilized Russians, comparing it with information on the number of men living in a couple outside of marriage. According to the journalists' calculations, the average percentage of mobilized men in this category is 1.56%; in this case, 492 thousand people could have been mobilized across the country.
According to official statements from the authorities, up to 300,000 people are being mobilized in Russia. In early October , Important Stories and Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) volunteers estimated the number of mobilized people at least at 213,200 in 53 regions.
