Russians who left the country after the start of the war in Ukraine can be recognized as “foreign agents” on this basis. This was stated by the head of the commission of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty Andrey Klimov.

“If you carefully read the law on the control of persons under foreign influence, a person who went abroad, did he not become under foreign influence? It turned out. And if he personally wrote a statement that he condemns everyone here or something like that, then he committed a political act, that is, he was under foreign influence and committed a political act. Can he be a person involved in this law? Easy," Klimov said.

Another senator, Andrei Klishas, ​​immediately reacted to the words of his colleague. "Colleagues, let's hold back the flight of fancy," he said.

In turn, the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the words of Klimov, called them his private opinion.

Senator Klimov heads the commission created in June 2017 in the Federation Council to protect sovereignty and combat foreign interference in Russia's affairs.

At the same time, as Novaya Gazeta wrote, when he was a member of the State Duma, Klimov headed a company registered in Cyprus for five years in violation of Russian law.
