A participant in the “Return of Names” campaign was detained in Veliky Novgorod

In Veliky Novgorod, the police detained Mikhail Chimarov. He is being taken to police station No. 2 for an explanation. This was announced by a lawyer from OVD-Info, Konstantin Markin, who is going to the detainee.

According to Markin, Chimarov was going to participate in the "Return of Names" action in the park on the Gzeni embankment and warned the lawyer about a possible detention.

Police did not give a reason for the man's arrest.

14:56 Chimarov was released from the department. According to the lawyer, they tried to take explanations from him regarding the publication of a certain article on the Internet. The man refused to talk to the police, referring to the 51st article of the Constitution, which gives the right not to testify against himself.

• On October 29, on the eve of the memory of the victims of political repressions, the annual action of memory "Return of names" is held. On this day, in different cities of Russia and in other countries, people take turns reading the names of those repressed in the USSR.
