An exhibition dedicated to repressions during Soviet times was canceled in Perm

The Pushkin Library in Perm canceled the exhibition “Prikamye. Repression. 1930–50s”, which was supposed to open on the day of remembrance of the victims of political repressions. This is reported by the Perm telegram channel Zvezda.

The library was supposed to host two events organized by the Perm "Center for Historical Memory": an exhibition and a public lecture "So that white spots disappear." However, the library canceled them a week before opening. According to the head of the center, the director of the library "was called from above and asked by order to remove all events."

“Apparently, someone vigilant thought that the events were being carried out by foreign agents – Memorial. They don’t want to hear anything that although the exhibitions were created by Memorial, they are being held by the Center for Historical Memory, ”he said. The "Center of Historical Memory" was created after the liquidation of the "Memorial".

The Perm Department of Culture blamed the center itself for canceling the lecture and the exhibition. There, Zvezda was informed that the organizers did not conclude an agreement with the library and did not place announcements and posters of the event.

• In February 2022, it became known that the Investigative Committee of Russia began checking the "International Memorial" under the article on the rehabilitation of Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). The reason for this was the statement of the public movement "Veterans of Russia". The movement accused Memorial of "perpetuating the memory of Nazi collaborators" by including them in the lists of victims of political repression.
