The US administration is asking the Ukrainian authorities to publicly show that the country is ready for negotiations with Russia, The Washington Post reported, citing sources.
The publication writes that in this way the US government wants Ukraine to be supported by some countries in Europe, Africa and Latin America, which are afraid of a protracted war, and where the conflict has already greatly affected the cost of fuel and products.
The United States is also asking Ukraine to abandon its public position that it will be possible to speak with the Russian Federation only after President Vladimir Putin leaves power.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree stating the "impossibility of negotiations" with the Russian leader.
