The New York Times, citing the administration of Kyiv, reported that in the event of a complete power outage, the inhabitants of the city would be evacuated, that is, about three million people.

“If Russia continues such attacks, we could lose our entire power supply system,” Roman Tkachuk, director of the Kyiv city administration’s department of municipal security, told the publication.

He also said that in the event of an evacuation, the city authorities must notify at least 12 hours in advance that the city's power supply system may be turned off. If this happens, Tkachuk specified, “we will start informing people and preparing them for evacuation.”

“If there is no electricity, there will be no water and sewerage. Therefore, at present, the government and the city administration are taking all possible measures to protect our power supply system,” Tkachuk said.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that as a result of massive Russian shelling, 40% of Ukraine's energy infrastructure was damaged or destroyed.
