The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden decided not to transfer modern Gray Eagle MQ-1C attack drones to Kyiv. At the same time, Ukraine itself, as well as its allies, members of the US Congress, have repeatedly asked for such supplies.
According to the publication, the Biden administration opposed the supplies, fearing that they could escalate the conflict - Moscow might think that the US authorities are providing Kiev with weapons capable of striking Russian territory.
US officials also worried that drones could shoot down on the battlefield and expose advanced technology to the enemy. But those concerns were not the main reason for the decision, officials said.
A spokesman for General Atomics, which manufactures the Gray Eagle MQ-1C, confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the company is aware of the US authorities' decision.
