Members of the HRC asked Bastrykin to check the video of the murder of former prisoner Yevgeny Nuzhin, recruited into the Wagner PMC

A number of members of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation turned to the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, with a request to check the video in which former prisoner Yevgeny Nuzhin, who was recruited into the Wagner PMC, was killed with a sledgehammer. The murder of Evgeny Nuzhin

Evgeny Nuzhin was serving a long-term prison term in the Ryazan region, and in the summer he was recruited into the Wagner PMC. In September, he surrendered - later in an interview with Ukrainian media, he claimed that he initially wanted to do this in order to fight on the side of Ukraine.

The video of Nuzhin's murder was published by the Gray Zone telegram channel, which is associated with the Wagner PMC, on the evening of November 12. Before his death, the man says that he "woke up" in the basement, where he was told that he would be "tried".

Presumably, Ukraine extradited Evgeny Nuzhin during one of the exchanges of prisoners of war.

The appeal poses five questions:

• Did Yevgeny Anatolyevich Nuzhin (born in 1967) really serve his sentence in a colony? Is he now in the colony or left it for some reason? Is this person alive?
• Who exactly is in the video? Is this person Evgeny Anatolyevich Nuzhin?
• What really happened in the video? Was extrajudicial reprisal in a cruel form committed over a person? Who is the person involved in the recording, except for this person?
• Who is the author of the recording, where and when was it made, and on whose initiative did it spread?
• How does it qualify from a legal point of view?

“We do not have laws that would allow lynching, no matter what this person does. Even if he is a “traitor”, there is a court and the Criminal Code, we do not live in the Middle Ages, there should be a consequence,” one of the authors of the appeal, Eva Merkacheva, told the publication.

According to RBC, on the afternoon of November 14, the head of the Human Rights Council, Valery Fadeev, said that he had not seen this video.

• Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the Kremlin "doesn't know how true this [video] is to reality." "It's none of our business," Peskov said.
• The founder of PMC Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, through the press service, called the video "an excellent director's work" and expressed the opinion that Nuzhin "met unkind, but fair people."
