The United States imposed sanctions against members of the family of Suleiman Kerimov

The US Treasury announced the expansion of sanctions against Russia. The restrictions included the international procurement network of the Russian military-industrial complex and "representatives of the elite associated with the Kremlin," the ministry said in a statement.

In total, 14 people fell under the new sanctions, including relatives of businessman and member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Suleiman Kerimov - his wife Firuza, daughters Amin and Gulnara, and son Said. The senator himself has been under US sanctions since 2018.

Restrictions are being imposed on 28 companies, including those from Russia, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Luxembourg. Among them are companies associated with the Kerimov family, as well as two companies through which Andrei Guryev Sr. and his relatives own a stake in PhosAgro.

In addition, the US Treasury imposed sanctions against the Kerimov-related airline Emperor Aviation and blocked eight of its aircraft. Businessmen Murat Aliyev and Alexander Shtudhalter, as well as legal entities associated with them, also fell under the restrictions. US authorities believe that entrepreneurs ran Kerimov's companies.

• Suleiman Kerimov, who has been a member of the Federation Council from Dagestan since 2008, and members of his family are the main owners of the Polyus gold mining company. The Russian Forbes estimates the fortune of the Kerimov family at $4.4 billion.
